Chinese Economy Rice. Non-Halal

There are three places in which one can find economy rice in the UKM area. They are the Ming Ming, Ta Su Sia (Big Tree), and CCC. All of them are in the same area.

Ming Ming           CCC                   Ta Su Sia

Price for rice added :              RM 3.70         RM 4.00 ++         RM 4.00

with three dishes.

++ (depending on the aunty’s mood)

Ambience : Ming Ming is on higher ground so the view is much “better”. The place is descently clean.

CCC is beside the KTM. Moderately clean. Also don’t go to the back kitchen. It looks like and abandoned public toilet. It gives you nightmares and you probably won’t want to go back there again, so if you still want to eat there just don’t.

Ta Su Sia faces the road. Considered the cleanest “looking” place of them all. But please be warned though, Ta Su Sia is built in front of a “kandang lembu” so it can stink of cow dung depending on the wind direction. If youre unlucky and it’s a windy day the stench can reach up to Ming Ming and CCC. So if the alternative would be “ta pao” take away . If you were born in a farm and miss the smell of home then feel free to stay. LOL. Hey what’s there to complain about with, unlimitless drinks and soup.

Operation hours:                     For all the shops 8am – 7pm

Location :    Ming Ming is the hardest to find located up on a small “hill”/ slope bump whatever. You have to look out for the sign. Hint: It’s actually beside CCC. CCC is located near the KTM station. Just turn in there and you will spot the shop under some Malaysian cherry trees. LOL.

From CCC just look across the road. You will spot Ta Su Sia. If you are heading towards Kajang turn to your left before you reach a traffic light.

Interesting to note all the places like usual economy rice stalls give free soup and drink. They taste about the same so nothing much to say. Don’t expect free Pepsi or Coca Cola. They serve only chinese tea (the cheapest kind) and plain water. Period. Also not forgetting the soup, there is not much meat, just chicken feet and the ever popular gizzards.

Cheapest of all is Ming Ming, and if you come around 7pm near the closing time you might get more “discounts” from the aunty.

Service: Ming Ming one of the best in my opinion. They uncle and aunty and maid all quite friendly. CCC, the aunty is a bit moody. Ta Su Sia tauke soh is quite friendly too.

Wifi:  The name economy rice already gives you obvious clues. There is no wifi. Unless you can hack a password from a neighbouring shop bring your own broadband.

Bakso Noodles at Perhentian Kajang

For those of you who are new to the area, and are looking for really cheap food, feel free to come and try Bakso noodles at the Perhentian Kajang Station. What’s unique about the dish is that it is not Malaysian but from Indonesia. Situated just a bus ride away, the noodles are sold only on Monday and Friday as this is when the pasar malam or night market’s are open. For those interested there are two competing stalls which sell the Bakso. One is just called Bakso stall the other is called Bakso Goyang Lidah.

After sampling both stalls here is what we found.

Bakso                                      vs                                      Bakso Goyang Lidah

Price :   RM3.00                                                                                        RM 3.50

Advantage:  Cheaper. Also the meatball                                  Free drinks.(Sirap water)

has quail eggs in them                                          But judging by the quality,

(tiny bird eggs) for real                                          better bring your own bottled                                                                                        water

Wifi:  Non existent for both, it’s a pasar malam ma.

Goyang lidah also has three types of noodles compared to Bakso which has two which are bihun and mee. Goyang Lidah has an additional mee ayam which looks like it is made from maggi noodles.

Please note both stalls give equally small helpings, but Bakso gives extra noodles for no additional charge :)

As for the taste both are about the same but it seems Goyang Lidah is more popular.

Please try them for yourself and rate both stalls.
